The Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) constructed a new laboratory and office building on the grounds of the Leipzig Science Park at Permoserstraße 15. The construction project was financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF, now the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR)), the Free State of Saxony and the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
An important contribution to the environment
The new building offers excellent working conditions for 170 UFZ employees in the fields of "Sustainable Technologies for the Environment" and "Chemicals in the Environment" and opens up new perspectives for making important contributions to climate and resource protection, the energy transition, integrative environmental protection and sustainable chemistry.
It is also one of the few public-sector laboratory buildings to meet the requirements of the Federal Building Ministry's "Assessment System for Sustainable Building (BNB) in Silver" certificate.
As a member of the Helmholtz Association, the UFZ bears the name of Hermann von Helmholtz, one of the greatest natural scientists of the 19th century.

The UFZ - Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research was planned by the architects at hks GmbH in Erfurt. All existing pipe penetrations in wall and floor slabs had to be sealed against pressing water over a large area. HKD sealing inserts DISO DN 400 and Domo-DW DN 300, Aquagard primer and special paint and Link Seal link chains BS 316 EPDM/V4A DN700 were used for this purpose.
Deinzer + Weyland GmbH from Leipzig and Sächsische Haustechnik Leipzig KG from Markranstädt acted as trading partners. The company Zimmer & Hälbig - Lüftung, Klima, Kälte from Leipzig carried out the corresponding work.
