The OZEANEUM on Stralsund's harbor island is the fourth and newest location of the German Oceanographic Museum. Since July 2008, the museum with its exhibitions and aquariums has been inviting visitors on an exciting journey through the underwater world. Behind the spectacular architecture with a façade made of white ship steel, visitors can experience the fascinating exhibition on whales with full-size replicas of the marine giants.
Europe's Museum of the Year 2010
Other highlights on the tour include an adventure exhibition for children, a spacious penguin enclosure on the roof terrace and Europe's largest Baltic Sea exhibition. The largest aquarium holds 2.6 million liters of water and its 50 m² panoramic window offers a view of schools of fish, rays and even sharks. The OZEANEUM combines five scientific exhibitions with 50 breathtaking aquariums, some of which are huge. The museum received the "European Museum of the Year 2010" award for this.
In spring 2019, tank no. 6 was renovated using DOYMA sealing systems.
Only respect for creation, only an appreciation of the diversity and benefits of nature will motivate people to show consideration. The museum is run as a foundation of national importance and in the interests of the common good.
