Axel-Springer new building

Berlin, Germany

The official start of construction of the new Axel Springer building in Berlin took place on October 6, 2016 - exactly 50 years after the opening of the golden publishing tower.

An imposing new publishing tower

On the 10,000 square meter site between Schützenstrasse, Zimmerstrasse and Jerusalemer Strasse, a new, imposing Axel Springer SE publishing building has been built, offering space for up to 3,500 employees. The light-flooded cube-shaped building is being erected in the immediate vicinity of the two high-rise buildings and the Axel-Springer-Passage. The interior of the building is characterized by interconnected terraces and a 45-metre high atrium. Tinted glass surfaces and structural elements with a 3D look will shape the façade.

"With our new building, we want to bring the Axel Springer family together spatially in Berlin and at the same time shape the future of working in the digital world through architecture. [...]"

Chairman of the Executive Board of Axel Springer SE, Matthias Döpfner on 19.08.2020

The design for the modern office building was created by the renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas (OMA office). He prevailed against 17 architectural firms in a previous planning competition. The project was realized by Ed. Züblin AG, a company of the STRABAG Group. The structural challenge was to design and manufacture a perfectly technical and functional panel construction with multiple sealing functions for a sprinkler tank. DOYMA, with its know-how in the field of special constructions, manufactured a multiple panel construction with fixed and loose flange 7006/M/S as a special construction specifically for the application and used pressurized water-tight pipe penetrations in combination with the separately supplied DOYMA Curaflex Nova® Uno sealing inserts.
